FTAPI Diaries: Meet our Professional SDR Melike

Melike has been an SDR in the FTAPI sales team since September 2023. In this blog, she shares some insights into her daily work and talks about what she enjoys most in her role as an SDR.

How long have you been at FTAPI, and what is your role?

My FTAPI birthday was on 1 September – which means I have been part of FTAPI for over a year now! As a Sales Development Representative (SDR), my role is to identify potential customers, understand their challenges, and recognise synergies. I often see myself as a bridge builder: I connect the right people with our solutions, ensuring that everything falls into place. The first contact with potential customers is crucial – I am essentially the first voice they hear from FTAPI, and that is exactly what makes my job so exciting.

What do you enjoy most about your role as an SDR at FTAPI?

Quite simply: I love everything about my role! Every day, I have the opportunity to speak with a wide variety of people and, in doing so, not only learn new things about them but also about myself. What fascinates me most is the psychology behind sales – it is not just about numbers and deals but about understanding people, engaging with them, and winning them over in a genuine and friendly way.

Knowing that my work makes a real difference gives me fresh energy every day. Sales, for me, is more than just a job – it’s my superpower!"

What qualities should someone have to work as an SDR at FTAPI?

  1. Empathy – To be successful in sales, you need to truly understand people. Listening, asking the right questions, and putting yourself in someone else’s shoes are essential skills to identify needs and offer the best solutions.

  2. Drive – Being an SDR means staying persistent and not being discouraged by a ‘no’. Success comes from resilience and passion for what you do.

  3. Reflection – Every day is a new opportunity to improve. It’s important to reflect on your actions, accept feedback, and learn from it. Growth starts where you challenge yourself!

You mainly work remotely at FTAPI. What are your tips for staying connected with the team?

Remote work can be challenging – but with the right routines, it is easy to stay closely connected with the team, even from a distance. My day starts with a freshly brewed coffee and a proper outfit – yes, that includes sneakers! Dressing appropriately, even when working from home, helps me mentally switch into work mode.

To stay in touch with my team, I use various methods: regular team meetings keep us updated, and Slack is our constant companion. Ultimately, it’s all about making a conscious effort to stay connected – that’s why I also come to the office in Munich for larger company events and our quarterly sales kick-offs. The great thing is that FTAPI has a company flat where remote employees can stay during their time in Munich.
